I wrote my first relaxation story to help my own son fall asleep when he was just 5 years old. Now, a man, he is helping me write for others. It is a great gift that my son has shared his voice throughout this coloring book. The quotes within were contributed by Austin Lite.

The Review

This was such a heartwarming and beautiful read for children and parents alike. The artwork and narrative of the book did an incredible job of pairing whimsical and interactivity with the more thoughtful and active educational tools that this book provides to both children and their parents as they come to terms with their growing emotional states. The writing style seemed to do a great job of reaching younger readers while also giving the adults who work with their kids on these issues to see and understand the lessons in a clear-cut manner. 

What struck me as brilliant on the author’s part was the way in which the overall narrative of the Octopus and his activities mirrored the lessons the author was intending for the reader, as well as the overall flow of the pages as the author weaves in different emotional states to tackle head on and overcome. The reader’s ability to color the fun and lighthearted pictures give the children more control over the narrative and the self-help nature of the book, making this such a unique read.

The Verdict

Thoughtful, memorable, and engaging, author Lori Lite’s “Angry Octopus Color Me Happy, Color Me Calm” is a must-read children’s book and self-help guide for parents to help their child deal with complex emotional states. The Review

One of the first things that I noticed about this book that readers are going to love is that this is the kind of book that becomes interactive with time. The author does an incredible job of building a book that causes readers to make notes, earmark pages, and keep tabs to come back time and time again as certain pieces of advice or steps the author has outlined become relevant to the reader’s life. The thorough and thoughtful way the author presented these chapters was well balanced with the personable and warmth of both the author’s words and the interviewees who participated to share their wisdom and views on life as we get older. 

I absolutely loved the duality of this book’s audience, as it not only speaks to older generations about how to not give in to any given narrative on how they are supposed to live their lives in their “golden years”, but also speaks to younger generations on how to live life to the fullest at all times, to find the people or community that will allow us to be our best selves, and to stop focusing on “perfection” as an ideal and instead learn to love ourselves and those around us as they are. The way the author is able to give tribute and honor to each interviewee and share these stories while accomplishing the goal of laying out these 7 goals makes this such a memorable read.

The Verdict

Honest, thoughtful, and engaging, author Jason Elias’s “The Seven Graces of Ageless Aging: How to Die Young As Late in Life As Possible” is a must-read book. The personal and memorable way the author was able to blend the stories of these incredible people with the lifelong lessons that readers can turn to time and again made for an absolute heartfelt read. The author’s experiences as a historical swordsman and teacher offer a truly unique perspective on discipline, skill, and dedication. The way the author speaks about balancing the physical with the mental aspect of personal growth was inspiring to read, as the focus in society for so long has been on more of the physical and less on the mental, making for a truly refreshing change of pace. 

The Verdict

A thoughtful, sometimes humorous, and always relatable reading experience, author Guy Windsor’s “The Windsor Method” is a must-read book. The author has a way with words that put the reader at ease and allow them to feel connected to the author’s own experiences, while also providing the guidance and lessons that will help improve our own foundations as we strive for our own personal growth. The Review

This was an incredibly powerful and moving read. It’s really hard not to get emotional reading this book, even if you yourself as a reader have not experienced this kind of trauma. The likelihood of knowing someone who has gone through this is high, whether it be a family member or close friend, and witnessing the pain someone you love is in due to this kind of trauma can be really difficult and heartbreaking to witness. 

Yet it was the powerful message that the author’s book gave that brought hope and strength to this book’s theme and narrative. The author’s ability to relay her own traumatic experiences while speaking with an authoritative voice and expertise highlights the techniques that can help other survivors to move beyond the trauma and find the things that bring them joy again in the world. Even the message on forgiveness is such an important topic, as it relates to how to find forgiveness for yourself for the false faults you found within yourself and instead keep the blame where it belongs, with the abuser. The way the author writes also allows for the reader to work on these techniques themselves, giving them the tools and practices they need to find their own path to heal and regain happiness in their lives.

The Verdict

A heartfelt, emotional, and memorable read, author Denise Bossarte’s “Thriving After Sexual Abuse” is a must-read book for survivors and readers alike. The honesty and engaging way the author not only relays her story but balances that out with lessons and techniques found through experience to help those who have had to deal with this kind of trauma is truly incredible and amazing to see unfold, as it shows the strength and work that goes into overcoming trauma and coming out the other side on a brighter note. This was an incredibly well-written and knowledgable read. The author brilliantly highlights and frames the struggles we often deal with on a daily basis and gives life and meaning to those adversities, from traditions to unfounded knowledge and so much more. Then by learning to flip those adversities and turn them into a positive, the author has showcased how to frame the “invincible mind”. 

One concept that stood out to me early on was the Ride the Adversity lesson, which highlights the need to take the adversity we face and not allowing ourselves to simply wallow in it. Instead, the author highlights the need to turn that adversity into a stepping stone to overcome the obstacles in our path towards happiness and our dreams, which is highlighted in a truly appropriate tale of the donkey and the well in the early chapters of the book. 

The Verdict

Powerful, thought-provoking and inspiring, author Alex Neumann’s “Harness the Power of the Invincible Mind” is a must-read book. With 2020 having dealt the majority of the world some truly difficult adversities and obstacles, the need to overcome those odds and find a path to our happiness has never been more important, the author does an incredible job of imparting this wisdom through experience and wise life-lessons that readers will be able to relate to.
