Boylord: Genesis by Nathan Peabody and Manuela Soriani

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

A beautifully crafted and illustrated world brims with life and death in author Nathan Peabody’s Boylord: Genesis. Along with illustrator Manuela Soriani, these two amazing creators bring to life the story of Ettan the Boylord, a child born into an alien race gifted with special abilities. Here’s the synopsis:

The genesis story of Ettan the Boylord, and his mystical journey to become part god, part cat. Born into an alien race with advanced powers, Ettan is abducted by a demon lord, and has his soul tossed into hell. His family rallies to save him in an epic adventure. The story is original, and full of surprises.

This book 1 contains a mixture of space opera and fantasy genres. Float away into a new world with 200 pages of gorgeous, full color, art by Italian artist, Manuela Soriani. Book 1 is the genesis of Ettan’s superhero powers, when a war-goddess enlisted to help find him in hell unwittingly endows him with powerful abilities. In book 2, Ettan starts to discover these powers. In book 3 and beyond, Ettan starts to use these powers to turn evil infested humanoid planets into good, and healthy, planets.

An exciting blend of science fiction, fantasy and even at times horror, this adult graphic novel features some of the most creative storytelling I’ve seen in the graphic novel realm in years. Blending demons with alien races, distant galaxies with hell dimensions, and the lengths not only a kingdom but a parent is willing to go to in order to save a child is explored wonderfully in this story.

The definite highlights of this book are the wonderful world building done by the author and the gorgeous illustrations done by the artist. When blended together these two elements help bring a whole new mythos to life in ways you wouldn’t expect. The special blend of magic and technology in this story reflects in the blend of illustration and story that the creators went through in this novel.

Overall I loved this book. The characters are exciting and adventure seeking, and the worlds in which the writer and illustrator mesmerize the reader with are so full of light and darkness that it’s impossible to look away. With an open ended final chapter that leaves readers wanting more, this reviewer can only hope we get to see a book 2 in the near future. If you haven’t yet be sure to pick up your copies of Boylord: Genesis by Nathan Peabody and Manuela Soriani today!

Face your Demons (Tainted Blood #1) by Nina Hobson Review

I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

A brutal horror story of a group of children terrorized by a monster straight out of humanity’s worst nightmares comes to life in author Nina Hobson’s novel “Face Your Demons”. Part of the Tainted Blood series, this book is filled with fast paced action, gruesome horror and a cliff-hanger ending you won’t be expecting. Here’s the synopsis:

Librarian’s note: This is an Alternate Cover Edition for ASIN: B0089PT018.

Jennifer’s young life has never been better. She has it all: family, friends and fun. That is until her terminally ill cousin comes to live with them setting in motion a horrific turn of events unlike anyone in the town of Cleveland has ever seen.

Oh yeah…and did she mention her best friend’s sister has a massive crush on her?

NinaHobsonBookslogo

This was one of the more unique horror tales I’ve read in recent years. The story reminded me of a more fast paced version of Stephen King’s IT, with a string of child murders plaguing a town and a group of pre-teen children facing this threat alone. The adults are all acting strange, and have dark secrets of their own. The horror of this tale is what really sells the story. The in your face scares and gory deaths solidify the horror heavy tale, while the character development between protagonist Jennifer and her friends helps bring a much needed human element to this supernatural tale.

The only criticism I would have is that while fast paced, this story does have moments of show vs. tell writing. I’d advise a slightly lengthier approach to garner that show quality storytelling that allows the reader to visualize the monsters for themselves. While the formatting itself did make some of the pages jumbled, I did receive an early copy of this book and therefore the formatting has most likely been improved since then.

Overall this was a very enjoyable horror tale. Filled with suspense, intense action horror scenes and a deepening plot that screams for more stories to be told, this was a fantastic first entry into the horror series. If you haven’t picked up your copies of Face Your Demons (Tainted Blood #1) by Nina Hobson, then do so today!

Boylord Issues #1-2 by Nathan Peabody Review:

After a rather successful trip to San Francisco Comic Con, I had the pleasure of meeting several artists, writers and publishers. One such creator
was Nathan Peabody, and I was given copies of the first two issues of his growing science fiction and fantasy series, Boylord.

This comic-book series follows a young boy named Ettan, who is a part of the Utopian society of cat-like species known as pranans. His home planet
of Vareenya is millions of years old, and his people can live thousands of years. They have six pairs of DNA that give them advanced abilities,
and they are known as a force for good. Having uprooted their home planet years earlier to a more peaceful part of the galaxy, Ettan lives a
life of peace and harmless adventure. However soon Ettan finds himself thrust into a perilous adventure filled with demons, war-bound humans and
a ticket straight to hell itself. If you want to know the incredibly detailed backstory for this story, I will include a link to Boylord’s website
here: http://www.boylord.com/read-me/

The artwork is simply beautiful. While Nathan Peabody created and wrote Boylord, artist Manuela Soriani brought the vast story to visual life.
With breathtaking visuals that perfectly outline the beautiful and graceful pranans  or the gritty and visceral look of the demonic forces that
threaten young Ettan, these two issues really blend the genres of science fiction and fantasy well, and even threw in a drip of horror in for
good measure.

Overall, this is an incredible story and wonderful comic book that deserves recognition. The beautiful artwork is a perfect pairing with a strong
story that is addictive and fun to read. These first two issues are a perfect introduction into this vast galaxy that holds endless possibilities
for stories down the road, and not only should you guys pick up your copies of issues 1 & 2 of Boylord, but if you enjoy the story and want to
see more, I recommend you check out this Kickstarter campaign to continue the story and get the next chapter of this story created. Follow the

The Guardian, a Sword, & Stilettos (Enlighten #1) by Kristin D. Van Risseghem

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the author and Booklover Catlady Publicity in return for a fair and honest review.
Many thanks!

Another thrilling new entry into the YA Fantasy realm hits home in author Kristin D. Van Risseghem’s “The Guardian, a Sword, & Stilettos (Enlighten #1)”,
a brand new adventure featuring ancient prophecies, angels, demons, and a whole lot of teenage angst. Here is the official description of the
book.

Zoe Jabril could be just another 17-year-old girl attending parties with her friends and checking out cute guys—except her best friend is a
Guardian Angel, and the boy she crushes on is a Nephilim, half-angel, both sent to Earth to protect her. A high school classmate happens to be
a trendsetting shopaholic fairy. And now there’s a new werewolf in town.

Zoe has to deal with her feelings toward Shay, who spreads a strange electrical current through her body every time he touches her. Now Zoe is
under constant attack from demons, trying to kill and stop her from fulfilling the Prophecy: a girl will be born who will unite the Enlightens
to battle evil. Then on top of that, between boring homework and drama with girls at school, she has to control new found talents if she’s to
prevent the devil from escaping Hell.

In order to do so, Zoe must devise a kick-ass plan ASAP or watch everyone die, because she’s running out of time. She turns eighteen in two
months—the date Armageddon kicks off.

What really stood out to this reviewer was how fast the action turned up in the story. Within a few pages the reader is introduced to three of
the main characters, is thrown into a high-octane, life or death situation, and introduces a heated new romance. The characters themselves, mainly
the protagonist Zoe, shows a tremendous amount of character growth through the novel. She goes from a naive, love-struck teenage girl to a
strong, powerful woman, and through the story’s plot she more than proves herself worthy of being this series protagonist. The sheer volume of
mythology showcased in this first book is amazing, and the vast amount of different supernatural entities in this series is sure to remind a lot
of readers of the Shadowhunter sage written by the incredible Cassandra Clare.

Overall, this is a phenomenal first entry in the Enlighten series by Kristin D. Van Risseghem. It maintains the quality writing the YA genre has
come to know and love over the last few years, and the abundance of creativity is felt in every sentence by the author. It’s filled with commonplace
teenage drama, while incorporating the supernatural realm in a very real and natural way. This is a must read for YA fans out there, so be sure
to pick up your copies of “The Guardian, a Sword, & Stilettos” today!

Character Insight: Jackson Stevenson

Hello there everyone, I’m back with a character insight into one of my favorite protagonists, Jackson Stevenson, the lead character in my major series Nightmare Wars.

Jackson Stevenson was born the son of a major league baseball player and owner of a popular magazine turned entertainment company. He met the love of his life in high school, and became a part of successful rock band with his best friends, his sister and his wife. His luck was perfect, and he couldn’t have been happier. Unfortunately, Jackson came face to face with a side of the world he never knew existed. After getting attacked by a violent ex-boyfriend of his wife Bella, who had been killed in prison but had somehow come back to life, he remained in a coma, and when he awoke, he found out that the world had been overrun by supernatural forces.

Finding the world he knew gone and his family being a part of the few humans left that had formed a resistance to the supernatural army, Jackson went from a weak coma survivor to a natural leader. What I love about this character is that through him I was able to showcase the true meaning of being a monster. He struggled to overcome the darkness within him that had been building up throughout the novel to bridge the gap between the good supernatural creatures and the human resistance. He has taken the mantle of leader after being elected by his friends, family and fellow survivors, and after learning to accept some new aspects of his life, he has gone head to head with some of histories most notorious monsters, including Dracula, known in this series as Dalca, and the original werewolf.

Thanks for checking out this character study. Tune in for more insights into my characters.

Character Insight #1: Lisa Etron

Something I want to do on my personal blog is talk about some of the characters I wrote in my books. The first character I want to talk about comes from my best selling book, I was a Teenage Killer. That character is Lisa Etron.

Lisa Etron is one of the most sinister and twisted characters I’ve ever written. In all outward appearances, she is a normal high school girl who is considered the most popular girl in her school. She has the looks, the brains, and the talent that most people strive to have in their lives. However, she harbors the personality of a deranged serial killer, looking to kill for no other reason that the sport of it and the sheer amount of joy she gets from her murders.

In the I was an Evil Teenager series, I showcase the evolution of evil in all it’s forms. In the first book, I was a Teenage Killer, I showcase the mind of an evil person, and show that evil resides in all shapes and sizes. In I was a Teenage Zombie, I showcased how evil can encompass a persona physically, and the toll it takes on the body. In I was a Teenage Demon, the final book in the series, I showcased the toll evil can take on the human spirit, and how that spirit becomes so corrupted by evil that it twists into something unimaginable.

To learn more about Lisa Etron and to follow her adventures, check out my Amazon Author Page and check out the entire series! Be on the lookout for the next Character Insight.
