Awake Under The Night Sky by Vanya Sharma Review

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

It’s a story as old as time itself. Two people from very different worlds meet by chance and find themselves falling madly in love, only for fate to intervene in their happily ever afters. Yet in author Vanya Sharma’s novel Awake Under the Night Sky, we get to feel the raw emotions and the powerful way that love impacts the lives of these two young people. Here is the synopsis:

Witness to the ravages of poverty and neglect, Vivian is driven by a purpose, in a world that seems to have lost its conscience. In the fires of loss, a young and fierce Andre has forged an iron will to succeed. His journey halfway across the world does not deter him, but only strengthens his determination.

Two people on the threshold of their lives, touched by love but driven by duty, following separate destinies. He has a past to restore, she has a future to change. Are their paths destined never to converge, or might the vagaries of fate unlock the buried dreams of two proud hearts, and offer a new beginning?

I loved this story. It was incredibly emotional throughout the entire read. Its an interesting concept, as it showcases that we do not always know when or if we will find love, and how that love will impact the dreams we once had. It makes us as readers question what is more important in life: one’s dreams or true love? It also showcases how outside forces can intervene and cloud our minds in the face of love, and how our lives are forever impacted by that found love, both good and bad.

The only small critique I have is that the book ends surprisingly abrupt. This may be a creative choice by the author, but it was shocking as you expected a final scene to play out and instead were left to draw your own conclusions on how things played out in the end. While readers will have a good idea of where things go from there, you become so invested in these two characters that you are left breathlessly wanting more, or at the very least to have confirmation as to these two lover’s fates. Other than that the author does a wonderful job of drawing the reader’s emotions out through this powerful romance. As the Valentine’s Day holiday passes, this book is a great way to keep romance alive and witness the way love changes us forever.

Overall this was a wonderfully written book with a beautiful story and rich characters throughout. Exploring various cultures and backgrounds, the story does a great job of connecting people from different worlds through one singular and purposeful thing, and that’s love. On the Side of the Angel: A Bartering Angel Story by J. David Core Review

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

A young woman on a mission of vengeance becomes the savior of the underworld in author J. David Core’s On the Side of the Angel. Part of the A Bartering Angel series, this story explores a mystery woman’s role as a fixer and the complicated tale she weaves to save various criminals. Here’s the synopsis:

Lina Forman has an assumed name, a vendetta, a résumé of varied skills, and the knowledge to make her a force to fear.
Known in the criminal underground as The Bartering Angel, a mysterious “fixer” whose help keeps the bad guys out of trouble, she assumes the name Lina when she arrives in the Pittsburgh area in 2005. When the son of a local drug runner murders a convenience store clerk during a botched thrill robbery, Lina must keep him out of jail to prove her worth to the local criminal underground. Despite her elaborate scheme to confound the evidence and mislead authorities, two local cops threaten to disrupt her plans and steer the FBI on a path to avoid her red herrings.
Can Lina preserve her reputation and make good on her promises before she has to abandon her vengeance, change her name, and start again? Or will a careless oversight expose her secrets?

What I really found interesting when jumping into this story was that it is the first in a series written by various authors. It’s all centered around Angel, or the Bartering Angel. Each author writes in their own unique voice, but focuses on this singular character and her journey. It’s a unique premise that led me into this gripping tale. Each novel can stand on it’s own, and this novel by J. David Core delivers a fantastic thriller. A mix between the films True Romance and Goodfellas (with a Bourne Identity element for good measure), this story is incredibly powerful and fueled by fantastic characters. The story is fast paced and action packed in it’s delivery, and the hints at Angel and her backstory led the reader into wanting more and more of this incredibly complex character and her story. The story delivers a satisfying ending while leaving the reader not only wanting more, but giving them a reason to go out and get the next author’s book in this series. It does a great job of creating an emotional pull to characters that are often billed as villains with no redeeming qualities. It proves that everyone is complex in their own right, and the line between good and evil are easily blurred.

Overall this is a must read tale. Every fan of thrillers and action packed stories will be able to pick this novel up with ease, and will be left wanting to jump head first into this adventurous new series. Spirits of the Heart (Haunted Voices #2) by Claire Gem Review

I received a free copy of this book for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

Two people with haunted pasts are thrust together in this incredible romance/paranormal thriller Spirits of the Heart by Claire Gem. Whether by accident or fate, two strangers are forced to live together, but soon they find themselves facing their past head on and growing into something more than they were before. Here’s the synopsis:

News Flash! Spirits of the Heart is a finalist in the I Heart Indie Awards!

An addiction counselor & a security guard struggle to free a little girl and her father—lost spirits trapped inside an abandoned mental asylum.

Laura Horton returns from college to move in with an old friend & start her career. But her homecoming is jarring. Her friend’s moved out, leaving Laura alone with the gorgeous but intimidating ex-boyfriend—in a house that snugs up to an ancient graveyard.

Officer Miller Stanford is a man with a shattered past. His alcoholic dad destroyed their family, a weakness Miller is terrified will consume him too. The last thing he needs is a sexy, blonde addiction counselor watching his every move. When he begins to see specters in the dark, he starts questioning his own stability.

But Laura sees her too—a pathetic child-spirit searching for her father. Can they unravel the mysteries of Talcott Hall without jeopardizing their love—and lives—in the process?

This was an incredibly powerful story. Looking into the theme of first impressions and haunted pasts, this novel explores the way two strangers can find peace and perhaps more in one another in order to move on from their pasts. As the story of this mysterious little girl ghost begins to unravel before their eyes, Miller and Laura are forced to confront not only their own past, but the past of Talcott Hall. The incredible writing makes this story flow smoothly, creating a rich emotional narrative that tugs at the heartstrings throughout the entire novel. The book does a marvelous job of blending the paranormal thriller aspect of this tale with the dramatic and possibly romantic heat between these two strangers turned roommates. Exploring the need to learn from the past and move on throughout the entire story, readers will be enthralled with not only the complex tale of these lost spirits, but with the connection Miller and Laura have between one another.

Overall this was an incredible read. Passionate, emotional and heart-pounding, this story does a great job of creating a beautiful sense of imagery throughout, and readers will absolutely love the roller-coaster of emotions that plays out until the book’s end. Beluga Tales – Because I’m Your Mommy by Nanna Elliana Review

I received a free copy of this book for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

A mother’s love comes to beautiful illustrated life in the brand new children’s story Beluga Tales – Because I’m Your Mommy by author Nanna Elliana. Here’s the synopsis:

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! And Mommy whale expresses her hopes and dreams for a one-of-a-kind relationship with her little beluga daughter. This book celebrates a mother’s love. The books are aimed at children aged 2-6 (picture books), who hopefully will join Valeria in her mini-adventures, and learn something about life and the world around them. In these books the characters share a whole range of experiences, they learn about sharing, about helping each other, and most important, they learn the value of friendship. My vision was to create books with positive messages for children. Simple stories with a valuable lesson or just a joke that could bring a smile to a child. A unique style with a lot of creativity that can bring any tale of imagination and adventure to new heights. ” I hope that you will enjoy my stories and if so please consider leaving an Amazon review since it helps individuals like me to stay motivated in this big and scary market. It would be greatly appreciated.” My books are mostly about friendship. The belugas go on little adventures and find different animals and situations that don’t always go as planned. In my books, I try to give children strategies to help them on how to deal with disappointment, anger, sadness, how to cooperate, share and surpass their difficulties. I believe in respecting children, challenging them, loving them and most importantly empowering them with knowledge. In the end, I aim to make the reader smile and learn something from my books. Follow Valeria in her new adventures. https://www.nannaelliana.com/

This story was heartwarming to say the least. Exploring themes of equality and the love of a mother for her child, the story focuses on the promises a mother makes to her daughter to love her, protect her and show her the world. Showing children the importance of sharing, caring and dealing with their emotions in a healthy way, this story was expertly crafted perfectly for children to learn from and for parents to bond over with their child. The illustrations were gorgeous, bringing the story of a beluga whale and her family to life eloquently and making it feel like watching a family movie.

Overall this was a great story, filled with heart and emotion throughout. An important read for any parent and their child, the story blends the sensational world of the ocean with the connection between a mother and their child, and it’ll have a tear welling up in your eye as you happily go through the story. If you haven’t yet be sure to pick up your copy of Beluga Tales – Because I’m Your Mommy today!

Pseudo Man by Abdul Sami Review

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

Author and poet Abdul Sami shines a light on the dark truth on the realities of life in today’s world in his book of poetry, Pseudo Man. Here’s the synopsis:

The Pseudoman continues to raze the foundations laid down by our ancestors. His greed and self-contempt are corrupting the true essence of humanity. War, pain, loss and futile quarrels have become our absolute fate. Will we ever wake up? Or will we all volunteer to be a casualty of this self-constructed catastrophe?

Although dark, the poems are beautifully written. A vivid use of imagery brings a harsh light onto the horrors of war, crimes against nature and crimes against humanity. The horrors mankind inflicts upon itself and the inability for man to learn from the past of our ancestors leads poet Abdul Sami to create a unique and creative collection of poetry. Although a fast read, the impact is great as the reader delves into the narrative of the poems themselves and starts to ask themselves what their impact on the world is, and forces us to ask how we can change it.

Overall it’s a great collection. Eloquently written and giving a new perspective on the way we view the world, author and poet Abdul Sami has created a fantastic new book that both educates and inspires us all to aspire to be better than those who came before us, and to work towards a better tomorrow to get out of a dark and hellish today. If you haven’t yet, be sure to grab your copy of Pseudo Man today!
