I’ve been struggling for two days on how to begin this post. It’s…it’s with a heavy heart that I must say goodbye to my beloved grandmother, Jacqueline. Never have I met a kinder, sweeter, more gentle soul than her. She loved her family with every fiber of her being, showing her children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren just how special they were to her. For me personally, she’s always been one of my biggest supporters. She and my late grandfather both gave my mother, sister and I our passion for reading. They encouraged me to become an author and supported me every step of the way. They gave us our love of big band music, musicals, and most of all our love for family. I was able to be there for her when she passed. My mother had been by her side for two days, taking care of her alongside my sister in my grandmother’s home, and that night she asked me to read a short passage of one of my novels to my grandmother. I was more than happy to, and it was a very surreal feeling when I finished reading to her and for the first time in over a day my grandmother awoke. She’d been mostly unconscious up until that point, and although she couldn’t speak, she moved enough to show she recognized what I was saying. While it was shortly after this that she passed, she was surrounded by her family, knowing how much she was loved and how loved we felt because of her. She worked her entire life to make her family safe and happy. She was one of the quietest yet strongest people I’ve ever known. She never complained about anything, even when she had a right to, and worked to provide her six children and husband good food, a safe home and a loving relationship not everyone is lucky to have. From myself, my family and all my relatives who grew up with this amazing woman, I want to say how much I love and miss you already grandma. You were one of my biggest sources of inspiration and the most loving person anyone could ever hope to know. I’m glad you are reunited with grandpa after all these years, and we all know you two are dancing across the stars of this vast universe, doing the jitterbug and holding one another as you did in life. Love you mucho mucho. ❤️
